The screenplay has the determined, saccharine cheerfulness and the intellectual appeal of a film intended for general audiences. Our boyish heroes are clean-cut, amusing and heart-warming; the plot involves mystery and adventure in a sultry summer vacation. The story follows a year-old's entry into sexual sophistication, told as explicitly as the traffic allows in an R-rated movie. Teen-age boys might yearn to witness the quick education that unfolds in "Private Lessons. Watching "Private Lessons," women will most likely feel they have been left out of a private joke. Becoming "a man" at the hands of an older woman is a widely accepted credo in our society and a well-worn plot twist in movies. Reverse the sexes in the situation and it seems more like statutory rape and sexual perversion. Philly Fillmore Eric Brown is the son of a wealthy widower. He and his best friend Sherman Patrick Piccininni are firmly in the clutches of their romantic fantasies about girls.

The screenplay was written by Dan Greenburg , who wrote the original source novel, Philly. Greenburg appears as the manager of a motel in the film. Private Lessons was one of Kristel's few major American film appearances; she was better known to European audiences for her Emmanuelle films which had only limited distribution in the United States. Philip "Philly" Fillmore Eric Brown is a year-old high school student and the son of a rich businessman in Albuquerque , who has left town on an extended trip during summer break, leaving the young man in the passing care of Nicole Mallow Sylvia Kristel , a sexy French housekeeper, and Lester Lewis Howard Hesseman , the family's chauffeur. Philly becomes infatuated with Nicole. When she spots him peeping into her room, she tells him to close her door. To Philly's utter shock, she means for him to close her door from the inside and then watch her undress.
If you are the right age, it is easy to get nostalgic for the golden era of the teen sex comedy. Case in point: Private Lessons , a competent but underwhelming exercise in raging hormones, bare boobs and clean-scrubbed smut. Private Lessons is the story of Philly Eric Brown , a young rich kid who is regularly left alone at the mansion by his perpetually traveling businessman dad. His adolescent prayers are answered when dad leaves him alone for three weeks with new maid Nicole Sylvia Kristel , who is scorching hot. The end result a mess that manages to be daring and lame all at once. Unfortunately, Private Lessons is lame in that such shenanigans never manage to spark any real excitement. Writer Dan Greenburg, who adapted this from his novel! The saving graces of Private Lessons are that it is well cast and each actor gives their all. Kristel is sexy and shows a decent gift for light comedy as the seductive maid and Hesseman is a scenery-chewing delight as the evil chauffeur he does everything but twist his mustache and laugh maniacally.
